My amazing clients have a unique backyard layout which they wanted to fill with naturalized plantings and an area for their new canine family member. The shape of the rear yard naturally draws the eye to the fence angle so one primary goal of the design was to replace that sightline with one that masks the narrow back end with a raised, built-in bed along with layered plant material. This should provide the area with a view that appears larger and more spacious, while much more pleasing to the eye.

The clients' back garden also aligns a public walkway on the north side, so privacy is a large consideration. I included some extra tall pergolas along the fences for climbing vines to take over, and these structural features, as well as some overhead beams to provide a 'ceiling' for lighting or vegetation, should assist with this.

My clients already have an extra large deck for entertaining with some fabric privacy shades they inherited when they purchased the house. We plan to replace these with slatted wall panels on which planters can be mounted wth a focus on plants that do well in partial sunlight.
